SCAPES - Back to a Sense of Normalcy!?!

Hello SCAPES family,

I hope you are resting and rejuvenating during these summer months after what was the most difficult and challenging year for teachers across the country.  I know South Carolina physical educators are the best, and we came through these trials during 2020-2021 with flying colors.

This summer SCAPES has worked to serve our members with different professional development opportunities.  Along with SCAHPERD and SCAAHE, SCAPES co-sponsored an Advocacy Lunch and Learn Webinar series led by Phil Ford and Meg Stanley of WholeSpire (formerly Eat Smart, Move More SC). WE are all advocates and these webinars gave participants information on how to influence the influencers! If you are interested, these videos are available for SCAPES members in the “Members Only” section on the SCAHPERD website. We also hosted our annual PEAK conference on August 3 led by presenters from across SC. They provided ideas and strategies on teaching physical education in the “new normal”, post COVID environment. We invited Future Professionals and first year teachers to attend the workshop for FREE in an effort to reach out to these new professionals and get them involved! We are planning for next year’s PEAK to be back face to face, so we hope you will join us the first week of August in 2022! In all, SCAPES members were able to get 8 hours  of renewal credits by participating in these professional development opportunities.

SCAHPERD 2021 Conference - FEAR to FUN in 2021!  We are excited to be back face to face in Myrtle Beach, November 12-14 at the annual SCAHPERD Conference. SCAPES has a strong slate of presentations scheduled for this year’s conference. Along with 60+ presentations, we are proud to welcome Dave Senecal, J.D. Hughes, and Mike Morris to do our pre-conference workshops and other presentations throughout the weekend.  These guys are physical education “Superstars” - Teachers of the Year and OPEN trainers who have made countless presentations at numerous state AAHPERDs. I have personally seen each of them  at different conferences and always came away with great ideas I could use in my classroom the next day. I promise, you will not be disappointed!  We hope you plan to join us and that you will also recruit other PE teachers in your district to join us at this excellent conference as we get back to face-to-face, and get to learn and participate in high quality, physical education activities. Registration will be open in mid-August!

Looking forward to seeing you at the beach!
