News from Advocacy Committee
The advocacy committee has two new faces in leadership roles; Adam Keath and Joanna Tremble are currently co-chairing the committee. Adam is a new faculty member at Winthrop University in the Physical Education Teacher Education program. Prior to arriving at Winthrop, Adam worked in the Kinesiology Department at Anderson University. Joanna is in her second year as an assistant professor of Physical Education at Newberry College. Before beginning at Newberry, Joanna taught in the School of Education at Florida Southern College. Both are passionate about advancing the professions under the SCAHPERD umbrella through advocacy efforts.
The primary goal for the advocacy committee this year is to expand the committee’s mission. In the current design, the advocacy committee operates primarily in an advisory capacity. To increase the reach of this committee, changes are being proposed to modify the current operating codes to allow for the organization and implementation of advocacy efforts. The committee will look to establish a network to aid in identifying the top advocacy concerns across the state.
Once the needs of the community are identified the plan is to publish the advocacy agendas on the SCAHPERD website to build awareness and encourage members to get involved. Actionable steps will also be provided for health, physical education, recreation, and dance professionals to make positive changes across the state in these areas.
Adam and Joanna are both excited to serve each of you this year and look forward to working together to ensure that health, physical education, recreation, and dance receive the recognition and support they deserve!
