SCDA News
I am so excited to be stepping into the role of SCDA President. We are off to a wonderful start and have hit the ground running on some new initiatives.
The first big goal SCDA has this year is to increase membership. Our regional coordinators are taking on the challenge of reaching out to every single dance teacher in their region to invite them to join SCDA and be a part of the exciting things that are happening across our state. We believe that every dance educator in our state should have the opportunity to be plugged into a network of dance teachers, resources, and opportunities that SCDA can provide.
Our second goal is to provide awesome professional development as well as opportunities for SC dancers to grow. 2020 is a SCDAncing Festival year. This biannual festival, was held in early March and provided the opportunity for middle and high school dancers to attend a two-day intensive with instruction from some of the best teachers from across the state as well as a headliner guest artist. Our headliner for the 2020 festival was Jillian Davis of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, and she offered multiple classes where students learned Complexions repertoire. Students also had the opportunity to take classes in a variety of other genres including hip hop, jazz, tap, modern, improvisation, contemporary, and Broadway Zumba. We even had an impromptu ice cream truck and yes, we danced to the ice truck music.
SCDA is so excited about all the opportunities we have on the horizon this year. We have a number of exciting things in the works for both this year and next. Thanks to our dedicated board members who are working tirelessly, we know we will watch great things unfold!
