We have been face to faces for a year now as we have mainly seen others on a “Brady Bunch” screen! I don’t know about you, but I am truly tired of seeing myself on a computer screen with all the other faces looking at me! I am ready for in person, high fiving, get moving, SO glad to see you…face to face SCAHPERD events! And we are planning that for the 2021 SCAHPERD Conference! I CAN’T WAIT! I hope you are ready too. I encourage you to submit your proposals for the 2021 Conference – From Fear to Fun in 2021! at https://bit.ly/2021SCAHPERDproposal. While 2020 was a year full of “shutdowns”, a year of change, a different and difficult year, a year of COVID craziness…a year we will never forget. It has also been a year of learning – some good, some bad. Thought I would share with you some of the things I learned from COVID. I learned… Connections can still be Made during a Pandemic– There is no question we had to be intentional with our connections but it forced us to think outside the box. SCAHPERD offered 7 different webinars, a virtual PEAK workshop and a virtual 2020 SCAHPERD Conference with outstanding presentations and great attendance! Online Professional Development can get your Heart Rate up! - I witnessed many teachers during the PEAK conference, webinars and SCAHPERD 2020 Virtual Conference up and moving as they participated in these professional development opportunities even though they were not in person. Virtual Backgrounds are Very Revealing – While virtual backgrounds can “cover up” a messy office, they also reveal a lot about one’s creativity, passions preferences…and can end up being a lot of fun. I will have to say the animated ones are only fun for a moment, then begin to be annoying. Innovation Comes out of Tribulation – While this year has truly been a trial beyond anything we ever expected or imagined, many teachers have used technology to present incredibly creative lessons and presentations. COVID challenged us to be innovative and many took that challenge head on! Dedicated Teachers Still do what they do BEST – Impact their Students! In spite of it all, teachers have been incredibly resilient, determined, and have stayed passionate about making sure their students are well, are active, are moving, and are safe! I hope you are well, active, moving and safe! I truly look forward to seeing you soon – face to face! Stay well and Keep Moving! Kym Kirby SCAHPERD Executive Director |
