News from SCAFP…

We've had an incredibly busy and rewarding spring packed with engaging workshops, national conventions, and inspiring recognitions. Here are a few of the highlights…

The SCAFP Spring Workshop, held in Columbia at a local school, was a huge success and a rich experience for everyone who attended. Along with team building activities, we participated in informative and pertinent break-out sessions about standards based instruction, assessment and a fun session on Capoeira. Don’t know what that is…ask Dr. Ramos! We want to thank all university faculty members who presented and helped to plan, as well as all of the SC Future Professionals who participated.

In digital news, our leadership team has been hard at work maintaining a constant presence on social media. Be sure to follow us on Instagram @scahperdfp. Our Instagram feed is the best way to stay up-to-date with upcoming events, recent achievements, and important advocacy updates.

SCENES from Seattle, SHAPE America National Convention!

Future Professionals from multiple SC Universities had the opportunity to attend the SHAPE America National Convention in Seattle, WA in April. Our own SCAFP Past-President, Garrett Bowers from Winthrop University, was recognized as one of the SHAPE America Majors of the Year - an outstanding achievement! It was a great experience and great to have SCAFP representation at this national convention. Special thanks to our professors who worked to help get funding for our attendance!

As we continue to focus on advocacy, several of our SCAFP officers traveled to Washington, DC, to champion the funding for Health and Physical Education under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Our future educators' voices were particularly impactful, catching the interest of our SC representatives. Special thanks to Dr. Adam Keath, SCAFP Faculty Advisor, for organizing the trip and to SCAPES for paying for our travel.  Advocacy matters!

Looking ahead…Our current President and Vice President, Lynde Beaver and Mike Paladino, will be traveling to the prestigious National Academy of Health and Physical Literacy (NAHPL), Southern Tier 2023 Future Professionals Leadership Development Conference at East Tennessee State University. We are thrilled about this opportunity and can't wait to come back and share what we learn!

Don’t forgetSuperStars 2023 and the 2023 SCAHPERD Conference is just around the corner, November 17-19! We hope you are making plans to attend as this year is going to be extra special! Not only will USC have to defend their 2022 SuperStars title, but we will also have sessions with a Future Professional focus. We are excited that we will have a former SCAFP president as the keynote speaker for our SCAFP session! Look for details on social media! Again, follow us @scahperdfp!

SCAFP President
