Ready or not, Here it Comes…2023-2024!

Where did the summer go!? Many of you have already started the new school year and are getting acquainted or re-acquainted with your students! That is always a time of excitement for the students and for the teachers!

We are excited about the opportunity for you to also get acquainted or re-acquainted with colleagues and friends from across the state at the Annual 2023 SCAHPERD Conference, November 17-19 in Myrtle Beach! I promise you…IT WILL NOT DISAPPOINT! The 2023 Conference Planning Committee, led by Brian Roney, has been hard at work securing outstanding presenters, planning special events and promotions and they have put together an incredible conference. We are so excited to have renowned keynote speaker (look for the reveal on social media soon)! Expect to be challenged and inspired during the general session and at his/her other presentations during the conference. Our SCAPES’ pre-conference workshops will be led by School Health Physical Education (Palos Sports) and US Soccer Foundation (4 hour pre-conference and participants receive full curriculum). Don’t miss SCDA’s guest artist, Dr. Alexis Sams, one of the most successful practitioners of dance medicine and holistic health care. Lastly, SCAAHE is hosting a special SC Thrive as they lead a Youth Mental Health First Aid training. 

While our invited presenters are outstanding, our own SC colleagues round out a slate of presenters who will provide a weekend of exceptional professional development. And don’t forget our Future Professional’s SuperStars, new and returning exhibitors, Awards Dinner, Conference Wide Social (start practicing your karaoke!), Kaleidoscope…LEARNING, PARTICIPATING and FUN that WILL NOT DISAPPOINT! HOW DO I GET THERE?

Need some helpful hints on how to get your principal to let you go to the conference? See the information in this newsletter as well as on the SCAHPERD webpage. You will find talking points and rationale you can share with your principal regarding how this professional development experience can benefit you, your program and your students. Tips on getting access to funding will also be presented. 

DON’T FORGET – SC FitMe 2023-2024!

If you have not heard, SC FitMe is a school based, online educational program designed to assist schools with fund raising while promoting physically active lifestyles and wellness in our students, schools, communities and throughout the state of South Carolina. The great news is schools keep at least 70% of the funds raised (gross, not net) in CASH, not equipment gift certificates! Teacher incentives provided that will help you as a growing professional!
